Shortbread Making Extravaganza!
SHORTBREAD! YUM!
The students from Room 15 went to Miss Blacker's class this morning because Mrs. Blacker was here to make shortbread cookies. This is how you make shortbread cookies - you mix butter, berry sugar and flour all together and then you add the mixture to more flour. Then you fold the ingredients all together and flatten it out. The shortbread doesn't rise so you need to make it thick. We used cookie cutters to make shapes or we made our own shapes! Then the cookies are baked!
Once they are baked, we used icing, chocolate chips, candy corn, sprinkles and other types of candy to decorate our cookies. We each made at least two!
When they were done, we got to eat them. The cookies tasted awesome and delicious! We had a lot of fun doing this activity. It was extraordinary and amazing!

Folk Art
Folk Art
To make our Folk Art, we had to
start off with a blank slate! We started by drawing hills on the paper. Next we
drew the houses, clouds, and the trees. We were supposed to draw fifteen or
more sections on the hills. Next, we had to draw different shapes like circles,
hearts, triangles, etc inside the sections. Our next job was to color in the
shapes with wax crayons. We had to color very dark. Then we used watercolor
paint and painted over the areas that were still white. Some kids even chose to
leave some spots white.
The effect of the painting and
crayons was awesome! The paintings turned out great and they were very colorful
and vibrant!
Room 15 has beautiful art!

Simple Machines
Today we tested out our "Simple Machines". We all made cars using household materials. We measured the distance that the cars travelled. The furthest distance was over 6 metres!!
In our Simple Machines unit, we learned about 6 simple machines. We learned about the wheel and axle, pulleys, inclined planes, screws, levers, and the wedge.
In our experiment, we used an inclined plane to help our cars go further! All of our cars used a wheel and axle. Some of the wheels were made from cans, CD's, cardboard, roller blade wheels, sealer caps and lids, lego wheels, and some other great ideas!
We thought that this project was interesting and fun, and awesome! It was also cool to see how each car was different and how each car moved further down the floor than others.

They also shared interesting facts about what they learned.
The students thought that the project went well. They learned a lot about the provinces and territories in Canada!

Today we used place value discs to learn about place value and expanded notation!
We then used the place value discs to expand the number. We expanded numbers up into the millions!
We had a lot of fun using the discs and they really helped us to learn about place value and expanded notation!
